“What
Story Are You Telling?”
Bad Drama
What comes to mind when you hear the
word drama?
An eye-rolling, door-slamming teen who
calls her BFF a backstabber?
Your attention-hungry in-law who bounces
from 1 crisis to another?
A heated controversy at church because
change always threatens the status quo?
Fortunately, another kind of drama
exists.
A good kind of drama.
The kind people will pay good money to sit and watch.
Good Drama
This weekend I’ll appear on stage in a
local theater production. Gerald Maloy is the director of RIVER SONG: The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer. During a recent rehearsal, Jerry Maloy asked us if
we knew the purpose of our performance.
His answer? “You are telling a story.”
RIVER SONG tells the classic story of
Tom Sawyer. All the action, dialogue, backdrops, props, costumes, lights, and music
combine to tell an entertaining yet poignant story.
Aunt Polly, played by Kathy Garver
(Cissy on TV’s Family Affair from 1966-71), knows that her nephew Tom
won’t stay a boy much longer. Just as you and I can’t stop a river from flowing
to the sea, we can’t stop a child from growing to adulthood.
Our Drama
Do you know the purpose of your life? The
more you and I know what our Creator made us to be and to do, the more
effective our story will be.
What story are you telling with your
life?
What story are you telling through
your words and deeds; your calendar and checkbook; your posts on Facebook, Twitter, and
other social media?
Starting today, what new chapters
would you like for your life’s story to tell?
When your obituary is published, will you be remembered for bad drama or good drama?
